Desk Report:
Tamim Iqbal, who withdrew from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors election, made explosive comments. The former national team opener claimed that election fixing is going on in the BCB. Therefore, he believes that it is important to stop election fixing before fixing cricket.
Tamim believes that this year’s BCB election will be a black mark for the country’s cricket. After withdrawing his nomination, he said, “You talked about stopping fixing from your cricket. First stop fixing elections, then stop fixing cricket. This was not an election. This election will be a black mark in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Whatever they want is being done around the BCB election. This cannot be a beautiful process. Those who are on the board can do the election like this if they want, they can win. But cricket lost 100 percent today.”
The BCB election is scheduled to be held on October 6. Before that, the last date for withdrawal of candidacy for the BCB board of directors election is till 12 noon today. Earlier, Tamim appeared at the BCB office located next to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur around 10 am with the necessary documents. He then withdrew his candidacy from the country’s highest cricket governing body.
Along with Tamim, 11 others withdrew their candidatures. They are Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Mir Helal, Israfil Khasru, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Yasir Abbas, Sabbir Ahmed Rubel, Masuduzzaman, Asif Rabbani, Syed Burhan Hossain Pappu, Siraj Uddin Mohammad Alamgir and Touhid Tarek.
Tamim had recently expressed dissatisfaction over the interference of a government group in the BCB elections. Therefore, even though the final nomination survived the final scrutiny, the once-regular face of the national team voluntarily withdrew from the BCB elections.
